4.4.3 PEP Audit Procedures |
SCOPE OF THIS CHAPTER
Children's Social Care Senior Management Team has initiated a continuous programme of audits within the Quality Assurance Procedures. Part of a comprehensive programme of file examination, audits will ultimately be conducted at 5 levels, from Tier 1, (managers and deputy managers), through to tier 5, (Ofsted). It is in line with this programme that auditing of PEPs is required. This document sets out a timetable for auditing and the standards that will be measured and is offered as a draft for consultation.

Contents
1. What will be Audited?
Both initial PEPs and PEP monitoring forms will be included in the Audit. A selection of Early Years, Primary and Secondary PEPs from each team will be examined.
2. Timeframe
- Termly (December, March and June):
- 2 x (Initial) PEPs
- 2 x Early Years PEPs
- 4 x Primary monitoring PEPs (2 x LAC, 1 x CDT AR report, 1 x other)
- 4 x Secondary monitoring PEPs (2 x LAC, 1 x CDT AR report, 1 x other)
- Yearly:
- (In February) All YR 9 PEPs
3. Selection
Selection, apart from the selection of Initial PEPs, will initially be random. One possibility is to use an alphabetical selection process (i.e. Commence with A and J and then use B and K the following term, etc.). Random selection will eventually uncover patterns in PEPs that come out of individual institutions or teams and may lead to a more in-depth review of PEPs from within that team or school.
An exception to random selection is YR 9. A review of all YR 9 PEPS will take place in February of each Year. This will ensure that planning for transition to KS4, GCSE selection and SEN transition plans (where applicable) are in place and that they have included resource planning.
Where the audit cycle reveals anomalies or patterns of weakness, then an exceptional review (of PEPs linked to a team, institution or theme) may be convened in addition to the planned timetable and led by Quality Assurance.
4. Who Undertakes Audits?
Audits will be undertaken by the Specialist Education Adviser for Children in Care, the Looked After Children Advisory Teacher and a member of the Quality Assurance Team.
Descriptors are recorded in the accompanying document, PEP Audit Standards.
