1.4.2 Arranging a Child Protection Conference

SCOPE OF THIS CHAPTER

This chapter explains the procedure that must be followed to arrange a case conference. It should be read in conjunction with Section 8 of the London Child Protection Procedures.

Note: These procedures describe arrangements in Bromley. They do not replace the London Child Protection Procedures.

The Social Worker must have the approval of a manager before they can book an Initial Case Conference.

The Social worker must complete the conference booking form and either fax or e-mail it to the Quality Assurance Unit.

The Quality Assurance Unit will arrange the conference, booking rooms and send out invitations.

An invitation letter will be sent by the Quality and Assurance Unit to the parents / carers with a copy of the explanatory leaflet 'Your Child's Conference'.

Social Workers should ensure that parents and carers are given clear explanation of why the initial child protection conference is being called and ensure that they are aware they can meet with the chair of the conference half an hour before to discuss the process of the conference and any concerns they may have.

Social Workers should ensure that parents have the appropriate support to attend and participate in the conference including interpreter and other assistance as necessary.

Social Workers should assist parents to make child care arrangements so that they are fully able to participate in the conference.

The Social Worker should complete a report for the child protection conference (please see procedures on Social Work Report for InitialChild Protection Conference Procedure.

The report should be sent, either as a hard copy or as an attached to an e-mail or faxed to the quality Assurance Unit 3 working days before the conference.
